Size 8 dress, inspired by the old versions of the fairy tale Cinderella. The dress is full length in red silk dupion with a dip dyed organdie outer layer. The red silk underskirt features hand painted verse from the fairy tale. Decorating the outer layer of organdie is a fantastic variety of appliqué, cutwork and embroidery. In amongst the heart shaped, steel coloured embroidery reminiscent of entangled, barbed wire, lurk tiny skulls with red beaded eyes and blood-like glass beads dropping from the embroidered barbs. The bust of the dress is decorated with delicate hand-painted, embroidered blackberry flowers that trail down the side of the dress, where there are also many hand-made blackberries suggestive of femininity and maturity, themes central to the fairy tale.
